ONE TEAM, TWO SERIES: This weekend at Phoenix Raceway features a unique crossover for motorsports fans as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and NASCAR Cup Series compete on the same oval race weekend for the first time. Team Penske stands as the only organization fielding entries in both series, and throughout its history the team has recorded 21 victories on the one-mile desert oval.
STARTING OUT FRONT: Team Penske placed all three of its drivers inside the top five on the starting grid for Sunday's race at Phoenix. Joey Logano led the way by capturing the pole position - the 34th of his Cup Series career and his third at the one-mile oval. Austin Cindric will roll off third, while Ryan Blaney lines up fifth.
LOGANO SAID IT: "The car drove really well and I just kind of took what it gave me. The car, I thought was good in race trim - a lot of sliding around from everybody. It's funny because it doesn't drive nice, but the pace was there, which was encouraging for tomorrow because it still feels like there are some areas to get better. Paul [Wolfe] and Joe [Bisson] and the guys did a good job at dialing it in and getting the balance really good for qualifying to where I didn't have to do anything crazy to make speed.
"Obviously, this is a big weekend for Team Penske with INDYCAR here. [David] Malukas getting the pole for here in a few minutes when that race starts, and then us being able to do it on our end, too. There's a little bit of a rivalry there. I don't know if we've really talked about it, but I think internally all of us want to deliver some wins this weekend."
UP NEXT: The green flag flies over the Arizona track at 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday. Live coverage will be held on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
