Biography

Matt Campbell returns to Porsche Penske Motorsport in 2026, taking on the role of endurance driver in the No. 6 Porsche 963 for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Campbell will join Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor for select races, including the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Campbell contested his debut season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2017. It marked Campbell's first year where he competed in European motorsport. Before 2017, Campbell, a native of Warwick (Queensland), Australia, raced single-seaters and contested the national Porsche one-make cups in his homeland.

Beginning in 2018, Campbell raced three FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) seasons for Dempsey Proton Racing. The team won the GTE-Am class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019. Following a WEC GTE-Am class victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2019, Campbell was named a Porsche works driver.

Campbell made his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut during the 2019 season. Driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R, Campbell competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and also made starts in series races at Lime Rock and Road America. He earned his first IMSA class victory with a GTD win in 2019 at Road America.

In 2020, Campbell raced in the IMSA season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona and the Petit Le Mans season finale at Road Atlanta. He was part of the GTLM pole-winning effort at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the class-winning finish at Petit Le Mans to close out the season.

Campbell competed in seven races during the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. He produced three GTLM class victories in his seven starts, driving a Porsche 911 RSR-19 for WeatherTech Racing.

In his first full season competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2022, Campbell produced four class victories on his way to claiming the GTD Pro (GTDP) class championship while racing a Porsche 911 GT3 R for Pfaff Motorsports. Paired with current Porsche Penske Motorsport teammate Mathieu Jaminet, Campbell scored class victories at Daytona, Laguna Seca, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and Lime Rock en route to the GTDP title. The performance earned Campbell the opportunity to compete in the No. 7 Porsche 963, with Nasr, in 2023.

Campbell's 2023 season began by claiming the outside pole position in qualifying for the 24 Hours of Daytona, the first race in the GTP era in IMSA. Campbell and Felipe Nasr earned their first podium result of the season at Long Beach finishing third in a 1-3 finish for Porsche Penske Motorsport. The No. 7 Porsche broke through at Road America, where Campbell and Nasr led wire-to-wire to score the first IMSA victory for the Porsche Penske Motorsport duo. Campbell followed it up with a second-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Porsche Penske Motorsport swept the top two positions in the race. Campbell closed the season ranked fourth in the final drivers' standings.

In 2024, Campbell delivered a standout performance in WEC, beginning with a pole position in the season opener in Qatar. Later, he achieved a major milestone for Team Penske by capturing its 100th sportscar pole at the 6 Hours of Spa. Driving the No. 5 Porsche 963 alongside his teammates, Campbell reached the podium three times over the season, with strong finishes in Qatar, Imola and São Paulo. This remarkable effort earned him a fifth-place finish in the FIA World Endurance Championship driver standings, rounding out an impressive debut season in endurance racing.
