Team Penske continues to look back at the exciting 2024 season with an overview of each team's performance and highlights. In this week's final look back at the season that was, the focus is on the team's winning NASCAR Cup Series program that secured the organization's third consecutive championship

Team Penske's 2024 NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) season was defined by triumphs, challenges and moments of resilience that showcased the team’s unwavering commitment to excellence. Drivers Austin Cindric, Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano each faced unique circumstances throughout the season, but all three and their respective teams raced their way to Victory Lane and earned positions in the NCS Playoffs. Collectively, the trio earned an impressive eight wins, culminating in the team’s third consecutive Cup Series title and the organization’s 47th overall championship across its diverse racing disciplines. 

Joey Logano’s commanding performance in the season finale cemented his place in history as one of only 10 three-time Cup Series champions. The victory in the championship race marked his fourth win of the season and the 36th of his illustrious career. 

This milestone was just one of many for Roger Penske’s team during a remarkable 2024 season. Organizational Highlights from 2024 included a victory in the prestigious 24 Hours of Daytona, a record-extending 20th Indianapolis 500 win, and championships in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship and the team’s fifth Cup Series crown. In total, Team Penske achieved 22 wins across its operations, making 2024 its most successful year since 2020. 

“To see the other competitors of Team Penske and think about what the organization is today, racing in all the different forms of motorsports and winning in all of them—like where else do you want to go? This is where you go to win. When you surround yourself with winners, that’s what happens,” Logano said after securing Team Penske’s third consecutive NCS championship in Phoenix. 

The Cup Series season began with high expectations in February when Logano claimed the pole position for the 66th running of the DAYTONA 500, marking a first for the organization. Team Penske’s fleet of Ford Mustangs showed strong potential to deliver “the Captain” his fourth victory in the Great American Race, but late-race incidents dashed their chances. 

As the season unfolded, Team Penske steadily refined its performance. Momentum reached its peak in June when Cindric delivered a stellar drive at World Wide Technology Raceway. Behind the wheel of the No. 2 Freightliner Ford Mustang, Cindric secured his second career Cup Series victory, snapping an 85-race winless streak. The win also guaranteed his spot in the NASCAR Playoffs. 

Blaney kept the momentum rolling two weeks later with a dominating performance at Iowa Speedway, where he led a career-high 201 laps en route to victory in the inaugural Cup Series race at the 0.875-mile track. The win earned him a place in the 16-driver playoff field and made him the first driver to win at Iowa in all three of NASCAR’s national series. 

Two weeks after that, Logano prevailed at Nashville Superspeedway following a Cup Series-record five overtime restarts and a dramatic fuel-mileage battle. The victory marked the 20th different track where Logano has triumphed and it secured his 11th playoff appearance in 16 seasons. He went on to win three more races in the playoffs, which ultimately propelled him to his sixth-career Championship 4 appearance. 

Blaney’s second win of the season came at Pocono Raceway, where he led 44 laps in the No. 12 Wabash Ford Mustang. The victory marked his second at the Tricky Triangle, a track where he earned his first-career Cup Series win in 2017 while driving the Wood Brothers’ famed No. 21 Ford. 

The season’s intensity peaked during the penultimate race at Martinsville Speedway, a venue synonymous with high-stakes racing. Facing a must-win situation to secure his Championship 4 berth after narrowly missing victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Blaney delivered under pressure. Starting 10th on the final restart with 87 laps to go, he charged to the front and led the final 15 laps to clinch a spot in the Championship 4 to keep the No. 12 team’s title defense alive. 

In the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, Logano dominated to secure Team Penske’s fifth Cup Series title in the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang. Blaney’s runner-up finish in the standings marked a historic 1-2 result for the organization, while Cindric’s consistent performances earned him an 11th-place finish in the final standings, the best of his young Cup Series career. 

Together, Cindric, Blaney and Logano exemplified Team Penske’s motto, “Effort Equals Results,” laying the groundwork for what promises to be an even stronger 2025 season. 

“We’re expected to win, and the culture is that—exactly that—we’re going to win, and we’re going to do it in a professional way,” said Logano. “It doesn’t have to be said anymore. That’s our brand. That’s what we are.”
