PPG Prospers with Penske Racing Partnership

January 16, 2009

A relationship that began in the late 70's, PPG and Penske Racing have worked together both on and off the race track for the last 28 years. As the partnership has grown over the years, PPG has become Penske's largest supplier of refinish coatings to its racing, truck leasing, and collision repair divisions.

PPG has a long history in automobile racing, including the PPG Cup, which the company sponsored for 20 years from 1979-1999. This passion has been a common thread that connected the PPG and Penske businesses for almost three decades. 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the official Penske/PPG partnership.

Bill Shaw, PPG Director of Business Development states, "We're involved with Penske Racing because of Penske's rich history and tradition in business and in motorsports. There are synergies between our two businesses that reach well beyond the track. Partnerships that last 25 years demonstrate a daily commitment to success and the teamwork necessary to ensure both partners prosper. PPG is proud and honored to be celebrating 25 years with Roger and his entire organization. Many new initiatives are underway including the plans to convert the Penske Racing facility to PPG Envirobase HP®, environmentally friendly basecoat color system. Waterborne specialists at PPG headquarters in Strongsville, Ohio have been working with multiple staff members at the Penske Racing facility in Mooresville, North Carolina, and assisting them in the conversion process. Going green with a company that has a history of product leadership and innovation is the difference when making such a change."

"This is one of many marketing platforms that PPG is using to elevate their presence in racing" says Jonathan Gibson, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Penske Racing. "It is about making the connection relevant to the end user and delivering a program that their customers can get excited about. We are proud to have such a great working relationship with the entire PPG organization."

The partnership with Penske Racing gives PPG the ability to connect with distributors, customers, and employees by offering a platform they remain passionate about. Whether participating at the races or using the state of the art race facility in Mooresville, North Carolina, PPG is utilizing its 25-year partnership with Penske Racing to enhance its business initiatives.
