Scott Pye recovers well in hard fought Phillip Island SuperSprint final

November 22, 2015

PHILLIP ISLAND, VICTORIA, 22 November 2015: The Detroit Diesel Falcon FG X of Scott Pye has finished in 14th position in Race 3 today at the WD 40 Phillip Island SuperSprint. After a strong Qualifying result, Pye capitalised on his P 5 starting position and was away well as the cars roared down to Turn 1.

The team had decided on a split strategy and pitted Scott on Lap 1. Surviving a hit from Jason Bright in Pit Lane, Pye was back on track and running well. The rest of the field cycled through their Pit Stops and Pye was up to P6 when a slight lock up at Lukey Heights on Lap 10 sent the Detroit Diesel Falcon into the marbles and off the road, dropping some 13 positions.

Pye pressed on well for the next portion of the race and recovered ground to P 15. He made his final pit stop on Lap 19 and set about salvaging a result in the second half of the race. Scott immediately set about passing cars to move up the order reaching the tail of James Courtney in 14th place by Lap 26. This was as far as the Detroit Falcon would move up after the 45 lap journey ended. Scott did some take something away on the day by setting the fastest lap of the race proving that the DJR Team Penske Falcon was a leading contender.

"We had a great race car today. Qualifying went well and I felt we could run with the lead pack. The race strategy was good and after I pitted on Lap 1, we had pretty clear track. But over Lukey Heights on about Lap 10, I just got out wide in the marbles and went off the road.

"It was so disappointing after such a good run this weekend. I felt for the boys but we just had to push on and try and get the best result we could. There was some consolation setting the fastest lap in the Detroit Falcon, but it does not make up for the race result."
