WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 10, 2013) – Sam Hornish Jr., and the No. 12 Penske Truck Rental Ford Mustang team set a new NASCAR Nationwide Series track record and will start on the pole in today’s Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International. The pole is the second consecutive for Hornish at Watkins Glen, the second pole of the 2013 season (Chicago) and his third career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole.
The Defiance, Ohio native lapped the historic 2.45 mile road course in 71.538 seconds at a speed of 123.291 miles per hour to set a new NASCAR Nationwide Series track record. Penske Racing teammates, Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski will start third and fifth respectively.
“If I would’ve known how good that first lap was I wouldn’t have done a second lap,” said Hornish. “The first lap felt pretty good, and I have to give credit to everyone at Penske Racing and all my No. 12 Penske Truck Rental guys for giving me a fast Ford Mustang. We are going to do our best to execute out there today and bring home a top result.”
The Zippo 200 will air today at 2:00pm ET on ABC. The race will also be broadcast on MRN and SiriusXM.
