Sonsio Grand Prix
Speedway, IN - May 9, 2026

JOSEF NEWGARDEN No. 2 ASTEMO CHEVROLET

START: 10TH
FINISH: 4TH
POINTS: 5TH (-75)

RACE RUNDOWN: Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 Astemo Chevrolet team delivered a strong fourth-place finish in Saturday's Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Starting 10th, Newgarden narrowly avoided trouble in the opening corner but quickly settled in and continued his charge forward. After restarting 12th, he climbed to ninth by Lap 13 while carefully managing rear tire wear. He made his first stop on Lap 19 for Firestone red tires with no changes, cycling out to restart sixth. Maintaining a steady pace throughout the stint, Newgarden was running fifth by Lap 40 before pitting from that position on Lap 47. He continued to show strong speed and consistency over the second half of the race, ultimately securing a fourth-place finish at the checkered flag.

NEWGARDEN'S THOUGHTS: "It's a pretty good day. It's not a great day, but, you know, fourth, we can work with that.  Good points, which is good. Now we get to go the other way. So, yeah, I'm proud of the team. The team was amazing on the pit stop strategy. That's really what made our day. We had some decent speed, not race winning speed, but I think top five for sure. So, we probably finished about where our potential was, which, you know, I don't want my potential and our potential to be fourth, but some days, I guess, you have got to take that. So, we're chipping away at getting back in front."

SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN No. 3 SONSIO CHEVROLET

START: 17TH
FINISH: 16TH
POINTS: 8TH (-96)

RACE RUNDOWN: Scott McLaughlin and the No. 3 Sonsio Chevrolet team finished 16th in Saturday's Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. The day began eventfully for McLaughlin, as the No. 3 car sustained slight damage on the opening green flag. Despite the setback, McLaughlin continued on and restarted 10th, but a blocking penalty soon followed, dropping him to 15th. Additional front-right damage began to affect the car's handling, prompting a pit stop on Lap 17 for service, including a front wing replacement. He rejoined the race in 23rd. Once back up to speed, McLaughlin made steady progress through the field, climbing to 16th after the restart, where he ultimately finished in his sponsor's entitlement event.

MCLAUGHLIN'S THOUGHTS:  "It was a tough day for the Sonsio Chevy. We picked up damage early, had to replace the front wing and battle back. Regardless, I'm always proud of the Thirsty 3s - they never give up. We'll put this one behind us and focus on getting ready for the Indy 500."

DAVID MALUKAS No. 12 VERIZON CHEVROLET

START: 5TH
FINISH: 2ND
POINTS: 3RD (-52)

RACE RUNDOWN: David Malukas and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team delivered an impressive performance in the Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, finishing second after a strong and competitive outing. Malukas ran at the front throughout the race and led a race-high 27 laps, showcasing both pace and execution from the No. 12 team. After avoiding an incident on the opening lap, Malukas restarted second before briefly dropping to third. He made his first pit stop on Lap 23 for Firestone red tires with no adjustments and cycled back to restart in second place. By Lap 31, he had worked his way into the lead and maintained a strong, consistent pace through the middle stages of the race. Running Firestone red tires again beginning on Lap 48, the focus shifted to consistent lap times as the race progressed. Malukas made his final stop on Lap 65 but was later overtaken for the lead. Regardless, the result marked one of his strongest performances of the season heading into the Indianapolis 500.

MALUKAS' THOUGHTS: "Well, honestly, it was just a matter of attrition. You know, we knew almost 40 laps before that that time was going to come. He (Christian Lundgaard) was just so fast, and we were burning push to pass to keep the time up. And, you know, it was, like I said, a matter of time, and then he ended up getting us. I mean, you saw how we took off at the end there, but overall, it's fantastic. result for us. You know, we went into this weekend thinking we were going to struggle, and here we are on the podium in P2. So, it's fantastic."

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES now shifts focus to PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying Weekend, set for May 16-17, where the starting grid will be determined for the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500.
