FIRST OF ITS KIND: After getting a first look at the San Diego Street Course during Friday's practice session, NASCAR Cup Series drivers returned to Naval Base Coronado on Saturday afternoon for qualifying to set the starting lineup for Sunday's inaugural Anduril 250. The inaugural event marks another milestone for NASCAR, which is competing on an active United States military installation for the first time. The temporary street circuit is a 3.4-mile, 16-turn course that winds through Naval Base Coronado, combining high-speed sections with technical corners and little room for error.

The San Diego Street Course is the first of three new or returning venues to appear on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series schedule over a five-week span, joining Chicagoland Speedway and North Wilkesboro Speedway. At 3.4 miles in length, it ranks as the fifth-longest track in Cup Series history. Among the circuit's notable landmarks are Carrier Corner, a sharp left-hand turn situated between two docked aircraft carriers; the Coronado Chicane, a challenging series of turns in the interior portion of the base; and Runway Road, which runs alongside Halsey Field's active runway.

As the United States Navy celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, the San Diego event provides a unique backdrop for one of the most distinctive weekends on the NASCAR schedule.

SUCCESS ON NEW GROUND: Team Penske has built a long history of success in inaugural events, earning 37 victories across its motorsports programs. In fact, the organization's first victory came in an inaugural event at the 1966 Daytona 24 Hours, while its first wins in both Can-Am and IndyCar competition also came in debut races with Mark Donohue.

That success has extended to NASCAR, where Team Penske has won nine inaugural events, including six in the Cup Series. Since 2018, the organization has captured four first-time Cup Series races, beginning with Ryan Blaney's victory in the debut event on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. Joey Logano added three more triumphs in inaugural races, winning the Bristol Dirt Race in 2021, the Clash at the Coliseum in 2022 and the Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway later that same season.
