NTT INDYCAR SERIES Qualifying Report - Indianapolis 500/Top 12 Qualifying

May 21, 2023

Sunday of PPG presents Armed Forces Qualifying weekend is headlined by the 12 fastest drivers from Saturday, the only drivers that have a shot to win the pole position for the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500. Will Power and the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet team was the only representative from Team Penske to hit the track on the second day of qualifying as he finished Saturday with the 12th-fastest time of the day.

Following a morning practice run that saw Power finish with the 10th-fastest lap, the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Champion was the first driver out to qualify in the Top 12 session. His four-lap average of 232.635 mph was not good enough to move on to the Firestone Fast Six. The 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner will start 12th next Sunday.

WHAT THEY SAID - "I had a big push on the second lap, got out close to the Turn 1 wall and had to lift. Apart from that it was a pretty solid run. We may have picked the wrong gear because I shifted a little too early at one point, but I got the lights for it. It looks like this is going to be super tight. It is what it is. I know we did our best."
- Will Power

WHAT'S NEXT - Practice Monday features the last practice of the month until Carb Day. Cars will hit the track from 1:00-3:00 pm ET and can be seen live on Peacock.
