Recap:

• After Friday's lone practice session in Long Beach, Team Penske went to work overnight to improve the handling if their Chevrolets around the historic street circuit.
• The results were positive as Scott McLaughlin and Josef Newgarden put down top 10 laps in the Saturday morning practice session after the team placed no cars on that list on Friday.
• Qualifying for the 28-car field began just after noon locally, with mixed results coming after a strong morning start.
• Last year's Long Beach winner Josef Newgarden will roll his No. 2 Hitachi Chevrolet off from the eighth position.
• Scott McLaughlin, making his third start at Long Beach, qualified his No. 3 Sonsio Chevrolet in the ninth position.
• Two-time Long Beach winner (2008, 2012) Will Power narrowly missed out on the second round of qualifying and will start 13th in the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet.
