Recap:
- While many parts of the country are still experiencing snowy, winter conditions, the 1.8-mile St. Petersburg circuit was more like summer when the NTT INDYCAR SERIES teams arrived on Saturday.
- After an intermittent start to the morning practice session, Scott McLaughlin and the No. 3 DEX Imaging Chevy team found their rhythm to finish second on the scoring sheet.
- The afternoon qualifying session saw McLaughlin and Will Power advance to the second round, with Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 Hitachi Chevy team settling into the 14th qualifying position.
- It would be McLaughlin moving on to the Firestone Fast Six for a run at the pole after Power could only muster the 10th-fastest time in the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevy.
- A determined McLaughlin set about winning his second consecutive St. Pete pole position in the No. 3 DEX Imaging Chevy, but contact with the wall on his initial lap led to a spin later in the session. Due to bringing out a red flag, McLaughlin will start sixth on Sunday.
What's Next - The green flag will drop on the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 pm ET. Coverage will begin at 12:00 pm ET on NBC, Peacock, Sirius XM Radio and INDYCAR Radio.
