Porsche Penske Motorsport Defends its Lead in the Michelin Endurance Cup
 

The Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International was marked by accidents and eight safety car deployments for much of the race. Uniquely, this race also marked by the first completely dry, rainless endurance race in the GTP era at The Glen, with track temperatures holding steady above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

The two Porsche 963s were on course for a podium finish at multiple occasions throughout the endurance race. Ultimately, the teams fight went unrewarded.

The No. 7 car fielded by Felipe Nasr and Julien Andlauer finished in fifth after a hard fight to the front of the pack. Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor in the No. 6 sister car hat multiple shots at a podium finish but settled for sixth.

In the manufacturer standings, Porsche remains in second place. In the drivers' standings, Nasr and Andlauer dropped fourth position with Estre and Vanthoor now in sixth place.

Watkins Glen also marks the third round of the Michelin Endurance Cup, which comprises the endurance races at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road America and Road Atlanta. Porsche was able to maintain their lead.  

The next round of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the SportsCar Endruance Grand Prix at Road Atlanta on August 2.

KEVIN ESTRE'S THOUGHTS: "At times, we were quite far ahead with our car. However, we had one drawback: in order to keep up with the pace at the front, we used more fuel. That meant longer refueling times during the pit stops. We achieved a good result given our circumstances. Hopefully we'll be right up there again in the next race."

URS KURATLE'S THOUGHTS: "As expected, the race was difficult for us. We got the most out of our two factory cars under these conditions. Porsche Penske Motorsport seized every opportunity that arose and performed flawlessly. That was all that was possible today."

FELIPE NASR'S THOUGHTS: "We've had a few frustrating race weekends now. Despite everyone involved doing a very good job, we couldn't manage better than fifth and sixth place. We're not going to let it get us down, though. We'll be back on the attack at Road America next month."
