THE RACE REVIEW
·Joey Logano qualified third in the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang for Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Chicagoland Speedway.
·At the drop of the green flag, Logano moved his way into second; and started to chase down the No. 54 of Kyle Busch, who would turn out to be his stiffest competition all afternoon.
·For the first 100 laps of the event, the car was just a bit tight in the center and loose off of the corner.
·Following the second round of pit stops, Logano stayed on the track on older tires and began to lose ground to cars that had fresher tires. After running second and third for most of the day, Logano found himself as far back as 10th.
·Once Logano was able to pit with a little over 40 laps left in the race, he started making a charge back toward the front of the field.
·Through several late-race restarts, Logano was able to race his way from 10th all the way back to second as the race ran to its conclusion.
· Logano’s second place finish, along with his two-laps led earlier in the race, was enough to keep a 13 point lead over the No. 54 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s point standings.
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
IT SEEMED LIKE YOU GUYS WERE RACING FOR SECOND TODAY. TALK ABOUT YOUR RACE.
“This Discount Tire Ford was good, just nowhere near as good as the 54 car. I think he toyed with us all day. I am not sure he ran a hard lap at all today. Every time you would think you were going to catch him he would bust off a lap two-tenths quicker than the last one. We were a second place car and we finished second. I would say we were best in class today. We just have some work to do to figure out how to beat those guys. Nonetheless, they are running for the owners points there and so are we. We lost a little bit, but I’m really proud of this team. We got behind there in the middle part of the race, but we came back. That’s been the theme to my year I think.”
