Keselowski Finishes 15th in Aaron's 499 at Talladega

THE RACE REVIEW
· Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion team started the race from the 11th position as the field was set based on the times from the first practice session – per the NASCAR rulebook – due to rain showers cancelling the Saturday morning time trials.
· Following the drop of the green flag, Keselowski spent the first part of the race trying to find out which line would be the most beneficial to use later in the event. As he did this he dropped as low as the 31st position.
· After restarting the race in the 10th position at lap 52, Keselowski gave Ryan Newman a big push into the lead before settling into the top-10 cars. Keselowski assumed the lead for one lap at lap 91 before he relinquished the top spot to bring the Miller Lite Ford to pit road.
· While running in the fourth position at lap 123, rain showers halted the racing action. The decision was made to dry the track and finish the scheduled distance. The track-drying process took three hours.
· On lap 183 the second multi-car accident set up a green-white-checkered flag finish. Unfortunately, Keselowski could not make his line work and he finished the race in the 15th position.
· Keselowski is now ranked fifth in the driver standings with Sunday’s finish.
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE RAIN DELAY?
“Joey and I were sitting in solid positions when the rain came. Ford Racing was actually running in the top four spots, so that was going to be pretty cool. But I’m a racer and I wanted to go for the win. I think we were in a good position with the Miller Lite Ford to do that at the end, but things just became a mess. On top of that Joey had his issues and it just becomes a bad (result) all around for Penske Racing.”
YOU WERE ABLE TO DODGE A LOT OF WRECKS TODAY. IS THAT A SKILL?
“I don’t know if it’s a skill. It’s really just about common sense and slowing down when the caution comes out. There was definitely a lot happening all around me today. That’s just the nature of restrictor-plate racing. These cars move around so much in the draft that it doesn’t take a very big miscue by someone to trigger a massive wreck. You really have to be aware of everything going on around you at Talladega. If you can do that you can minimize your chances of being in the ‘Big One.’”
