BRISTOL, Tenn. (August 21, 2009) – Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger for Penske Racing, will start tonight’s 250-lap event at the high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway from the sixth spot.
During Friday afternoon’s practice session, Allgaier and the No.12 Verizon Wireless Dodge team worked to fine tune their machine for tonight’s 250-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series event. He told crew chief, Chad Walter, the car was a tick loose in the middle of both corners, but felt like his machine was very competitive. The team made a couple of minor changes to prepare the rookie for the 250-lap event.
In Friday’s qualifying session, the Illinois native ran a time of 15.953 seconds which put him on the outside of the third row for start of the Food City 250 at the World’s Fastest Half Mile. Allgaier made his first career start at Bristol Motor Speedway in March, capturing a fifth place finish.
“I love Bristol [Motor Speedway],” commented the Verizon Wireless Dodge driver after his qualifying attempt. It is such a great track and I can’t wait to run under the lights tonight. We were just a bit too tight in our qualifying run, but I can see the front which is a great thing. I think our Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger is really strong in race trim and if we stay out of trouble all night, we will have a very strong run.”
Coverage of the Food City 250 can be seen live tonight on ESPN2 with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on PRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
