Stremme Will Start Sunday's Race in Dover From the 17th Spot

September 25, 2009

DOVER, Del. (September, 25, 2009) – David Stremme, driver of the No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger, will start Sunday’s AAA 400 at the one-mile Dover International Speedway from the 17th position.

Stremme and the No.12 Penske Dodge Charger team had a ninety minute practice session on Friday to get their car dialed in for qualifying.  Stremme fought a loose car during the practice session.  The team worked diligently on both the front and rear of the car trying to find a combination which was not only fast, but comfortable for Stremme to wheel around the “Monster Mile”.  The team made gains with every run and by the end of the session the team had nailed down the 15th spot on the speed chart.

In Friday afternoon’s qualifying session, Stremme was the 35th car to roll off to make a qualifying attempt.  The red and black No.12 Penske Dodge ran a time of 23.251 seconds which was good enough to put him on the inside of the ninth row for the start of Sunday’s 400-lap event at the “Monster Mile”.

“The car was just too loose,” commented Stremme after his two laps of qualifying.  “We will start inside the top-20 which is an improvement from the spring.  As a team, we have really improved our qualifying performance which has helped us in the race.  Starting up front here at Dover [International Speedway] is really important.  It is really hard to pass and being able to see the front is crucial.  We have two practices tomorrow to get our car dialed in for Sunday’s 400-lap event.”

The AAA 400 can be seen live Sunday, September 27 on the ABC TV network. Race coverage is scheduled to begin at 1p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
